Plans are changing all the time. So far I've seen five films (see sidebar, left), met brilliant, adorable Canadian filmmaker Don McKellar, and basked in the presence of international film hero Wim Wenders (pictured at right). Last night we switched at the last minute from Caterina in the City to The Taste of Tea, and I'm sooooooo glad we did. The Taste of Tea was incredibly beautiful; you can almost see the airheaded tagline now: "Japan's answer to 'Amelie'!" Well, Amelie crossed with Napoleon Dynamite. Made up of absurd vignettes tied together with calm moments of pastoral family togetherness, The Taste of Tea is imaginative and everything I could hope for in a festival film: imaginative, unusual and funny, transcending borders and sending me on my way out of the theater with a renewed love of life.
I'm having a really hard time trying to decide what to see tonight, but we're leaning toward Or at 5pm, followed possibly by Bitter Dream, but we'll definitely end up at the Oak St. to see About Love at 9:30. I was really hoping to catch the re-screening of Murmuring Coast (7:30 at Block E), but we won't be able to make it to About Love if we do that. Poopy. Hal Hartley's film will certainly screen again somewhere, and the other runner-ups were A Real Man, Kontroll, and Mila from Mars, though we may be able to see the latter on Wednesday night.
If you haven't yet: get out! I know the weather's been great but there are some amazing filmgoing possibilities happening this week. See you at the movies.
Ooh, but Maggie Cheung's Clean is playing tonight. Sadly I don't think I'll be able to go, but we did see Kontroll yesterday and it was amazing. I'm still thinking it through.

Er...by "tonight" we now mean "last night," and I should've seen Kontroll instead of Or. Oh, well. We didn't make it to About Love either but we might try to do that isntead of Estamira on Tuesday night. Definitely planning on going to see Clean tonight (although Assayas cancelled his appearance).

That woman off Wim's right shoulder looks like she's a rabid fan about to attack.

Rampant illness in the house may result in no film fest activity tonight, after all.

So sad. Our household is playing host to severe allergy-related illness. It's pretty sucky. At least our insurance approved the magical Zyrtec for the little man (I was denied).

First Annual Minneapolis-St. Paul International SuckFest!
Does the Magical Zyrtec live in a box and wear a sparkly turban?

Ohh I wish I'd seen Kontroll.
We are currently basking in the post-Taste of Tea glow.

I'm so glad you guys saw and liked it. The director has one other film that's available on DVD plus one that's not on video at all. I think we're seeing One Night Husband tonight, followed either by Estamira, About Love, or maybe nothing at all.

Dang, I wish I'd seen the Taste of Tea. Oh well.
As for the Zyrtec, it does sort of live in a magical box...

In my previous comment I'd been trying to include a link to a photo I'd taken of the Zyrtec, but was told off (as it was suspected of being comment spam). Sigh.

Maybe if I try a flickr link instead...

Success!
(Sorry for cluttering up your comments. Can you tell I've just had my morning coffee?)

Wow! Those drugs are so pretty...
We saw One Night Husband last night- pretty damn disappointing.
